RECORDING BEGINS February 11th!

It’s been a long time in the planning with stops and starts, wrong choices, personnel dramas and we’re finally all together with the right members for recording the SATIN STEEL JAZZ debut cd!! This weekend in the studio will be Zack Page on bass, Brian Felix on piano, Justin Watt on drums, Rich Willey on trumpet and myself recording the first set of many songs in the line up. Compositions by my dad, Herb Haslam include: Simply Me, A Thousand Years Ago, Leaves From the Book of Changes and Shadows Fall. Each tune was originally composed within a score from a musical he wrote, pertaining to characters. Yet, the beauty and synchronicity of this project is that each song speaks to my story in life in real time. “A Thousand Years Ago” is the title song and describes a woman who is coming into her own with love and life. She feels the strongest sense of a familiar presence in her life and I interpret this as her soul mate- here and near. It’s warm and enticing and will be recorded as a bossa nova ballad. “Simply Me” is more from the theme around a woman whose spirit is coming into her own authentic expression. In the release she sings: no more pretending to be someone I never wanted to be. It’s a jubilant story with a liberating message and will be produced as a waltz swing. “Shadows Fall” is a love song about the dark times that come between lovers. The compelling angst which holds love in the air too deep to let go and too painful to continue. This is a beautiful ballad with a tragic pining over a tenacious pulse. “Leaves From the Book of Changes” is a love song which captures the lead up to a very strong bond between two people. The story speaks to the hearts of those who’ve known a deep love that unfolds into a quest of constant discovery. Written originally as a ballad, we’ll be doing this love song as a light swing. More to come in the spring with love song duets and great solos featuring the finest musical talent in jazz! -Eve – See more at: https://evehaslam.com/blog/blog/recording-begins-february-11th#sthash.vciYxAB8.dpuf
